Kees Sterk
Kees Sterk is a Senior Judge, professor of Administration of European Justice at Maastricht University and former president European Network of Councils for the Judiciary. Sterk joined the NHC Committee in of January 2022.
His expertise include the application of European law in the broad sense (including the ECHR) in Dutch case law, as well as institutional embedding of the core values of the judiciary in the Member States of the European Union.
Until January 1, 2020, Sterk was vice-chairman of the Council for the Judiciary. He has extensive experience as a judge in the Supreme Court and in the Court of Appeal of ‘s-Hertogenbosch and as a judge in the Court of Breda, and is former president of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary.
Sterk obtained his doctorate at Tilburg University in 1994, and regularly publishes on case law-related topics.
