Concern on excessive violence against demonstrators in Turkey
20 June 2013
The Netherlands Helsinki Committee supports the call of Amnesty International on the government of Turkey to end violent repression of protests in Turkey. What began as a demonstration to save a park in Istanbul has turned into a violent wave of repression against protestors throughout Turkey. Tens of thousands of people have attended anti-government demonstrations following shockingly excessive measures used by police to disperse peaceful demonstrators. Amateur video footage shows police officers beating protestors with batons, using tear gas and water cannons.
Please join the protest call of Amnesty!
The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey issues regular updates on the number of protestors affected, here is their 19 June update.
