Joeri Buhrer Tavanier joined the team as Programme Manager Integrity and Accountability in 2019. He studied East-European Studies in Amsterdam and has worked on issues related to good governance, judicial reform, anti-corruption and the fight against organised crime. Joeri has been the Acting Executive Director of the NHC since September 2023.

Joeri has over 20 years of professional experience and has worked for civil society and the European Union. He has worked in the Western Balkans, Bulgaria and Romania as well as in countries of the former Soviet Union. For ten years (2008-2018) he was the European Commission’s Resident Adviser to Bulgaria (2008-2018), where he reported on key rule of law issues under the EU’s Cooperation and Verification Mechanism.
