Joeri Buhrer Tavanier

Executive Director

Joeri Buhrer Tavanier was appointed Executive Director of the NHC in October 2024.

He joined the team as Programme Manager Integrity and Accountability in 2019. He studied East-European Studies in Amsterdam and has worked on issues related to good governance, judicial reform, anti-corruption and the fight against organised crime. Joeri was Acting Executive Director of the NHC between September 2023-October 2024.

Joeri has over 20 years of professional experience and has worked for civil society and the European Union. He has worked in the Western Balkans, Bulgaria and Romania as well as in countries of the former Soviet Union. For ten years (2008-2018) he was the European Commission’s Resident Adviser to Bulgaria (2008-2018), where he reported on key rule of law issues under the EU’s Cooperation and Verification Mechanism.
