Statement of Solidarity Following Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

Southern Turkey and northern Syria have been struck by a series of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks, starting on 06 February 2023, and claiming more than 20,000 lives in the past few days.

Kirsten Meijer, Executive Director of the NHC:

All of us at the NHC were shocked and saddened by the news, and want to take this opportunity to extend our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy and solidarity to all those affected by the devastating earthquakes in southern Turkey and northern Syria. The NHC has a long standing relationship with several partners in the region, and we are keeping in close contact and stand in solidarity with them.
